Giles defeated the Parry Mc-Cluer High School volleyball team 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Region 1C tournament in Pearisburg on Monday night.
The Spartans (21-2), who entered as the top seed from the Mountain Empire District, ended the Fighting Blues’ season with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-11 victory.
Kadence Zollman paced PM, which was seeded fourth out of the Pioneer District, with five kills and nine digs. Jorja Catlett tallied 11 assists and two blocks for the Blues, while Emory Slagle also posted two blocks and Josie Martinez chipped in three kills Martinez, Presley Camden and Allie Cullen recorded five digs apiece for the PM defense, and Cullen and Martinez each served up one ace.
The Blues wrap up the 2025 campaign with a 13-13 overall record, including a 6-4 mark in district play. Seeded third in last week’s Pioneer tournament, PM beat No. 6 Highland County 3-0 in the quarterfinals to qualify for the regional playoffs. The Blues then fell 3-1 to No. 2 Narrows in the semifinals and 3-2 to fourthseeded Bath County in the thirdplace match.
PM will graduate two seniors from its roster: Zollman, a firstteam All-Pioneer District selection, and Cullen, who earned second-team all-district honors.
Giles advances to face either Narrows or Grayson County in the Region 1C semifinals at Blacksburg High School on Thursday. The regional championship game is slated for next Tuesday, Nov. 11.
