Oct. 29, 1975

A 21.5-acre site north of Lexington near Interstate 64 at the Va. 39 interchange was rezoned from agricultural-general to industrial.

-A recommended plan of action – including possible cutback in teachers’ salaries – to meet Gov. Godwin’s proposed 5% cutback in state funds for education was presented to the Buena Vista School Board by Superintendent James Bradford. The number one objective was to eliminate all unnecessary spending. - The Citadel beat Virginia Military Institute in a battle of defenses 6-3 at home.

Nov. 2, 2005

Lexington native George W. Foresman was nominated by President Bush for undersecretary for preparedness at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. - Thieves broke into the Dollar General on Walker Street and stole $2,557 in cash from a safe in the manager’s office. - Louise T. Johenning celebrated her 100th birthday with her children and 60 other family members and friends.
