Oct. 22, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: In his Oct. 15 column, my friend Mike Lowry asserts that attorney general candidate Jay Jones should step down and get psychiatric help following revelations of texts where he fantasized about shooting a political opponent.
I have to agree. A person who is fantasizing such violence should not be holding public office.
I’d like to think that Mike would agree with me that the guy who fantasized that “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, okay, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s, like, incredible”… also should not be holding public office. ERIC SHEFFIELD Rockbridge County
