Editor, The News-Gazette: Back in 2019 Virginia law makers proposed many restrictions upon our 2nd Amendment rights. Virginians turned out in large numbers across the Commonwealth in support of 2nd Amendment Sanctuary cities and counties. We need that grassroots enthusiasm again.
The 2024 Virginia Assembly passed dozens of restrictive gun laws including banning popular semi-automatic rifles, limiting magazine capacity, and five day purchase waiting periods. Only Governor Youngkin’s veto prevented these infringements on our constitutional rights from becoming law.
Winsome Earle-Sears for governor, John Reid for lieutenant governor and Jason Miyares for attorney general are all strong supporters of our constitutional rights.
Like we did back in 2019, Virginians must turn out to support our constitutional 2nd Amendment rights. We must vote in this election for Winsome Earle-Sears, John Reid and Jason Miyares.
This will be a close election. The rights of Virginia’s law-abiding gun owners depend on your vote! Assume that your one vote is the tie breaking vote that saves the 2nd Amendment. DENNIS HAWES Buena Vista - Our governor, Glenn Youngkin, has been excellent as an American politician; however, his four-year term is expiring. He has put the commonwealth in a great position financially. Because of him and his staff, our economic development makes our area more attractive to employers.
The election of Winsome Sears as Virginia’s new governor, John Reid as our new lieutenant governor and Jason Miyares our attorney general, these are the right candidates with the right experiences for these jobs. They will continue leading with honesty and strength. It’s very important that you vote in the upcoming election.
