Oct. 27, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: There’s so much to say about the way Trump has burned down our democracy - but because I’m a poet, I’ll just let the two conspicuous metaphors from last week speak for themselves.
President Trump posting from the official White House site an AI generated scene of him flying over millions of the electorate and defecating on them. Doesn’t he know he’s supposed to be president for the entire country - not make an enemy of them?
And the second, without the consent of the people, completely demolishing the East Wing of the White House, quite literally erasing the history of the women in the White House.
This bigoted, greedy man has ruined America for decades to come. I feel such sadness and grief for the way Trump has burned down, demolished, and defecated on our democracy. There’s no place for fascism in a democracy. CYNTHIA ATKINS Rockbridge County
