Downtown Lexington and Buena Vista will once again be busy places this Halloween.
Downtown Lexington trick-ortreating will take place this Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., while Spooktacular in Buena Vista will run from 4 to 6 p.m.
In Lexington, children 12 and under, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to participate in the city’s annual Halloween tradition.
Presented by Main Street Lexington and underwritten by downtown merchants, the afternoon will feature sidewalk trickor- treating and live entertainment.
The entertainment schedule will begin at 4 p.m. with the Skeleton Dance at the corner of Main Street and Nelson Street. Down the block on Main Street in front of Courthouse Square, the Rockbridge Ballet will perform at 4:15 p.m., followed by Halestone Dance Studio at 4:30 p.m.
As a safety precaution, the central downtown streets will be closed to vehicular traffic to allow the safe passage of the little ones. Closed from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. will be Main Street from Preston Street to Henry Street; Washington Street from Randolph Street to Jefferson Street; and Nelson Street from Randolph to Jefferson. Members of the Lexington Police Department will be on hand to help direct the flow of pedestrians. Caution while driving is urged.

-Main Street Buena Vista invites families to the annual Spooktacular on Magnolia Avenue on Friday. Local businesses and organizations will be handing out candy — and offering some free games.
This year’s costume contest has a fun twist: downtown businesses will select winners f or scariest, most creative, and cutest costumes, handing out special winner tickets right along the route. There will be age categories from 0 to 12, along with a family/ group themed category. This will take the place of the traditional costume contest.
Meanwhile, area residents are invited to play cornhole at Magnolia Square throughout the event, and at 5:15 p.m., Main Street Buena Vista will present the inaugural golf cart parade featuring decorated golf carts. To join in, sign up or email contact@ mainstreetbuenavista.org.
