The Rev. Willis was surprised this Sunday with a special gift plaque during this Pastor Appreciation Month. He has 30 years in ministry and members of the congregation wrote cards of appreciation. The plaque was presented by his wife, the Rev. Dr. Amy Willis. She recited a history of the years of his ministering. Also, speaking for the ceremony was Gayle Tolley. Members of the congregation were requested to wear tartan plaids to the service in honor of the Rev. Willis’ Scottish heritage. The service was followed by a surprise luncheon for the minster.
Visitors to the service included members of the Dane and Sheryl West family. A memorial service was held this past Saturday for Dane. It was attended by family and friends from North Dakota and his former church. Also attending this week were several members of the Virginia Military Institute rugby team.
