The community would like to thank the seven local churches and the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department for sponsoring the “trunk or treat” event for area children and youth in the parking lot of the Effinger firehouse on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25. Approximately 90 children, youth, and parents enjoyed a fun filled afternoon of games, treats and seasonal activities. Thanks to all who contributed candy treats and financial gifts to make the afternoon so special. Church sponsors included the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist. Oxford Presbyterian, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Rapps Mill Church, and Union View Advent Christian Church.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church observed Laity Sunday on Oct. 26 during the morning worship hour. Cheryl Meyer, church lay leader, delivered the morning message entitled “Following Jesus.” Sunday afternoon several members of the Collierstown Charge and the Rev. Montague visited and sang for the residents at Heritage Hall. The annual charge conference will be held tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lexington. On Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. the United Women in Faith will hold their monthly meeting in the church’s fellowship hall. Lori Parrent will lead the program.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will be the scene of much activity this week as final preparations are made for the annual church dinner sponsored by the Presbyterian Women. This year’s event will be held this Saturday, Nov. 1, with meals being served continuously beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m. Meals will be available for dining in or taking out. Take-out dinners may be ordered by calling (540) 4635918 from noon until 6 p.m.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church will have a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. The meal will include all-you-caneat spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, dessert and assorted beverages. The cost of the meal is by donation.
A raffle drawing will be held at the Effinger firehouse on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. Fifteen winners will be selected for the donated prizes listed on the Effinger fire department’s Facebook page. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for six tickets or $10 for 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any auxiliary member or by calling (540) 460-3980.
