British Comedy Coming To W&L Screen
Noël Coward’s “Present Laughter” is the next National Theatre Live presentation at Washington and Lee University.
The Lenfest Center Outreach & Engagement Series event will take place on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. on the Stackhouse cinema screen in Elrod Commons.
Filmed live from The Old Vic on the West End with running time at 2 hours 20 minutes, with a 20-minute interval, the show features Andrew Scott as Garry Essendine.
“Present Laughter” is a giddy and surprisingly modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness. As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colorful life is in danger of spiraling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Essendine’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soulsearching.
Matthew Warchus directs Andrew Scott (“Vanya,” “All of Us Strangers,” and “Fleabag”) in Noel Coward’s provocative comedy.
Tickets are required. Tickets prices are $20 for general admission and $8 for students. Online ticket sales are available at https://my.wlu.edu/lenfestcenter/ present-laughter. Tickets can also be bought the night of the performance onsite at the Stackhouse Theater.
The National Theatre Live is sponsored in part by Class of ’64 Performing Arts Fund.
