Raphine Man Dies After Roanoke Crash

A Raphine man is dead following a multi-vehicle accident in Roanoke on Friday.

Andrew Marciniec, 26, was one of two drivers transported to the hospital for treatment after the accident, and died shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to a press release posted to the Roanoke Police Department’s Facebook page. The other driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation determined that the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Orange Ave. and Plantation Road NE in the city of Roanoke, was caused when a driver who was traveling at approximately double the posted speed limit struck the rear of another vehicle that was slowing for traffic. The second vehicle kicked out and struck the driver’s side of a third vehicle and the rear of a fourth. The fourth vehicle was pushed into a fifth car, which was pushed forward into a sixth vehicle which was pushed into a seventh. An eighth vehicle at the scene was initially believed to have also been involved with the incident, but was determined to not have been struck.
