Hudson: Office Dedicated To Excellent Customer Service

Candidate For BV Treasurer

Amarilis M. “Amy” Hudson is seeking reelection as treasurer for the city of Buena Vista, continuing a career in the treasurer’s office that spans nearly two decades.

Hudson began working in the office 18 years ago, first as a clerk under longtime treasurer Landy Boatwright and later as deputy treasurer for Mary Lee Huffman. She said both mentors helped shape her understanding of the job’s importance and the standards of professionalism it requires. “I gained valuable knowledge from both of them during those 16 years,” she said.

Hudson assumed the duties of treasurer in April 2023, then was officially elected to the position in the November 2023 special election.

“For the past two years, I have served as the treasurer for the city of Buena Vista,” she said. “I bring 18 years of knowledge to this office and want to continue to serve the citizens of our city.”

She said the treasurer’s office is more than a place to make payments — it’s often the first stop for residents with a wide range of questions.

“The treasurer’s office team is dedicated to providing the excellent customer service the citizens of Buena Vista deserve,” Hudson said. “A visit to our office is about more than just paying a bill. Customers have always shared how much they appreciate our willingness to help, even when it doesn’t pertain to our office.”

As treasurer, Hudson oversees the collection, accounting, and disbursement of city revenue, along with ensuring the safekeeping of public funds. She said strong accountability measures remain central to her approach.

“The primary responsibilities of the treasurer include the receipt and collection of revenue, the safekeeping of revenue, and the appropriate accounting for and disbursement of revenue,” she said. “During my tenure, we have successfully completed and passed all audits.”

Hudson said she is committed to professional development within the office.

“I will continue to strive to do the job at the highest level, sharing my knowledge with my staff and ensuring that everyone in the office has access to all available training and education,” she said. “I believe continuing education leads to continued success.”

She credits her parents with instilling the values that guide her work each day.

“My mom always told me, ‘In all that you do, put forth your best effort,’” Hudson said. “I bring those values to my position as city treasurer every day. I love Buena Vista and want to continue to serve its citizens.”

Hudson is unopposed in her reelection bid.
