Rockbridge
Clubhouse, Solar Array Plans Reviewed
The Rockbridge County Planning Commission on Oct. 8 reviewed site plans for the planned new clubhouse at the Lexington Golf & Country Club and a solar array that is to go at 331 Lloyd Tolley Road, Natural Bridge Station.
The new 7,712 square-foot clubhouse facility is to be accessed from New Cameron Drive, approximately.114-of-amile west of the intersection of Country Club Road and Rufner Place. Also included in the site plan are the demolition and removal of all buildings, sidewalks, porches, parking areas, trees, shrubs and miscellaneous items associated with the old clubhouse.
The 3.0 megawatts solar array is to go on 21 acres of a farm owned by William S. Shepherd and Jennifer K. Rattigan that is on the west side of the intersection of Lloyd Tolley Road (Va. 733) and Gilmore Mill Road (Va. 703). An amended timetable approved for the project in April calls for construction to be underway by May 1, 2026, and completed by June 30, 2027.
Both projects were previously granted special exception permits by the Board of Supervisors. Because of recent changes in state law, site plan approval authority rests solely with administrative staff, rather than the Planning Commission.
Also at the Oct. 8 meeting, Commission members discussed a proposed solar power ordinance.
