Oct. 22, 1975

A 102-unit, six story apartment complex designed specifically for the elderly and handicapped was proposed for Houston Street in Lexington.

- The United Way campaign was at 50% of its goal, with $27,634 of its $59,214 having been pledged. - Issues of area-wide concern, including the proposed quarry at Big Springs and plea bargaining criminal cases, were debated at a pre-election meeting held to introduce local candidates to the public.

Lexington City Council authorized application for a bond issue for up to $13 million to finance the city’s share of the cost of a new joint courthouse facility and parking garage. - Employees at Dana Corp. were told that the Buena Vista plant was set to close. It had been in operation since 1988 and employed 275 workers. - Plans for construction of a new pedestrian bridge across the Maury River at Jordans Point to replace the bridge that was destroyed during the 1992 flooding were shelved for the foreseeable future. The grant money already obtained to build the bridge was used to develop a connecting trail system using the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
