Oct. 15, 1975

Former first lady Lady Bird Johnson was spotted shopping in downtown Lexington. She was the overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Steves. - Students in the industrial arts class at Lexington High School built a classroom, which earned high praise from school officials for its rich pecan paneling. - Jeanne Lunsford was crowned homecoming queen at Rockbridge High School.

Oct. 19, 2005

Hunter Defense Technologies acquired Power Systems International Inc. of Natural Bridge Station. HDT had merged with Base-X in Fairfield earlier in the year. - Opponents of the proposed Mead-Westvaco distribution center in Buena Vista continued to make their presence known at council meetings. One city resident declared, “We will not allow this monstrosity to destroy this city!” - The remains of area resident Clarence Stuart Hickman, missing since 1962, were finally found at a Pennsylvania funeral home. He was buried in Green Hill Cemetery next to his wife.
