Oct. 13, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: My last letter to the editor followed the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the violent rhetoric we have heard from the Democratic Party for many months. Now we learn of the horrific comments from Jay Jones, candidate for the Virginia attorney general (the top cop position). If he cannot “police” himself, how can we expect him to “police” the citizens of Virginia?
Where is the outrage among the Democrats? Which Democrats denounced his comments and called for him to remove himself from the slate? Was his apology sincere or was he sorry that he was caught?
Where are our two Democrat senators? Where are the state Democrat delegates and senators? Where is the Democratic candidate for governor? Crickets!
Can we really expect someone who wants to be our governor and will need to make tough decisions, that cannot even stand up and do the right thing and call for Jay Jones to drop out of the race?
Where is the sanity and common sense? I guess the Democratic candidates and office holders are following Abigail Spanberger order to “Let your rage fuel you.”
Is this what our local Democrats view as “free speech”? Or will they be able to vote their conscience and cast a vote against Jay Jones? JAN LOWRY Chairman Rockbridge Area Republicans
