Concerned About Solar Power Groups’ Influence

Oct. 13, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Boyd Brown and Jay Lewis, both candidates for Rockbridge County supervisor slots for Kerrs Creek and Walkers Creek, have received and are still receiving campaign financed ads and literature from outside interests, including from legal Political Action Committees supported by the solar power industry.

Our county residents have already gotten a considerable financial and emotional flogging by solar power interest groups whom are thoroughly in favor of converting our farmland and viewsheds into grey panel fields. The Shenandoah Valley area is the largest mostly treeless area in Virginia, a good reason these solar companies want our land.

The solar power industry sees the Valley’s convenient proximity to massive data centers being built in Northern Virginia. These electric power-hungry facilities are our next county economic development challenge, but many voters still have a choice, this November, to consider other candidates to serve on our Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors. Government should, in most circumstances, represent the government’s constituency... the rank and file citizen whose future is connected to his and his neighbor’s welfare. DON HENKE Goshen
