Drug Bust Made After Chase, Crash
A Lexington man was taken into custody by the Rockbridge Sheriff’s Office last week following a brief chase on Blue Hills Lane. A search of the vehicle after the chase uncovered approximately one-quarter pound of methamphetamine and a “felony amount” of marijuana, according to a post about the incident on the sheriff’s office Facebook page posted by Sheriff Tony McFaddin.
Jason Christopher Mays, 48, was arrested on Oct. 1 and charged with three felonies: possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, distributing between 10 ounces and five pounds of marijuana and disregarding commands from law enforcement. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of driving with a suspended or revoked license and one misdemeanor count of not having a county decal.
According to the Facebook post, a deputy with the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop of Mays’ vehicle “in the area of Route 60 and Blue Hills Lane.” Mays ignored the lights and siren and turned down Blue Hills Lane before crashing his vehicle. He was taken into custody “immediately following the crash.”
McFaddin told The News-Gazette on Monday that the deputy who attempted to make the traffic stop did so based on “actionable intelligence from a larger ongoing investigation from the drug task force.”
“Thanks to the proactive efforts of our deputies, these dangerous drugs were removed from our community, and an individual intent on distributing them was arrested,” McFaddin said in the Facebook post.
Mays is being held without bond at the Rockbridge Regional Jail. A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Dec. 5 in Rockbridge County General District Court. -The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office also made the following felony arrests over the past two months: Michael Thomas Mohler, 45, of Lexington, for one count of assault on a regional jail employee on Oct. 5.
