Playing at home after three road games, the Parry McCluer High School football team earned a 35-16 win over Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy on Friday night at Bobby Williams Field in Buena Vista.
The Fighting Blues (4-2) raced to a 21-3 halftime lead and finished strong. The Ospreys fell to 0-6.
At halftime, the Blues honored their six members of their 12th Athletic Hall of Fame class, who will be inducted in a banquet in the PM gym on Saturday at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children and students.
Prior to the game, on the 50-yard line, two members of this year’s football team, quarterback Nathan Glass and running back Zavion Dunn, were recognized for breaking a 48-year-old record for the longest touchdown pass thrown. This year’s record of 95 yards, which took place during the Blues’ 46-12 home win over Page County on Sept. 5, broke the 1977 record when Marty Carter threw a 90-yard TD pass to Mickey Dunn. Carter and Dunn were also recognized.
The Blues will begin Pioneer District action at Narrows (1-4) next Friday at 7 p.m.
