The Rockbridge Area YMCA has announced the successful completion of its 2025 annual campaign, raising more than $63,000 to support children, families, and individuals in the community. These contributions helped serve more than 2,600 members and provided nearly 90 children each week with safe, enriching experiences during 10 weeks of summer camp.
“This campaign was never about numbers; it was about meeting the needs of families and children in our community,” said Chad Whitmer, executive director of the Rockbridge Area YMCA. “We’re grateful for the support that made it possible, and our focus remains on serving the people in our community.”
At the Rockbridge Area YMCA’s Early Learning Center, the community’s support has been felt in meaningful ways. Child care director Gwen Whitmore said it has been deeply rewarding to serve more children this year and to watch them grow.
“Every day we see children light up when they make a friend or try something new,” Whitmore said. “It’s moments like those that remind us why this work matters, and I’m so thankful we get to be a part of it.”
The Rockbridge YMCA is also experiencing substantial growth in membership, with a 20% increase over the past year. Rockbridge Area YMCA board member Doug Nowak said that growth reflects the Y’s deepening impact in the community.
“The YMCA is truly bursting at the seams right now,” Nowak said. “More people are coming through our doors. That’s an exciting challenge for us as a board, and it shows how much this community values the Y.”
Annual campaign gifts fuel the YMCA’s financial assistance program, ensuring children and families can participate in life-changing opportunities. While membership fees sustain operations, it is community support that expands access and strengthens the Y’s impact.
“The annual campaign is at the heart of how we make the Y accessible,” said Rob Hughes, board chair for the Rockbridge Area YMCA. “We are especially grateful to the Rockbridge community for stepping up in such a big way this year. Because of their generosity, more children and families here at home have access to the support, programs, and connections they need. This campaign is proof of what we can do when we come together for one another.”
