Sept. 27, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Our president acts more and more as a monarch speaking from the throne of a kingdom. In his hour-long speech before the U.N., he demonstrated a total lack of the virtue of Humility (which is Truth): his words shamed us before the nations. Instead of revering and upholding our Constitution, he manhandles its carefully written Articles, even breaking them. And lacking empathy, he manhandles the feelings and freedoms of very many individual human beings: some are helpless migrants, others are elected officials who dared to oppose what he stands for.
President Trump appears to show the behavior of an authoritarian who, consciously or unconsciously, is following idealogues who want to usurp our democracy and put a dictatorship in its place — a classic oligarchy, with control by the ultra-wealthy. It is very well described in the Heritage Society’s published Project 2025, whose main author is a member of the president’s administration.
