The second annual Young Life Rockbridge County 5-kilometer run/walk, along with a fun run for children age 12 and under, will take place on Saturday evening at the Virginia Horse Center.
The event, sponsored by Welsh Construction, supports the local Young Life ministry in Rockbridge County, serving local middle school, high school and college students. Thanks to additional sponsors, registration is now free. Last year, there were more than 60 participants in the 5K, which took place on the Woods Creek Trail, and the event raised $12,700.
The fun run will start at 4:30 p.m., with the 5K following at 5:15. The 5K route will go from the Hoofbeats Barn through the woods, following a trail along the Maury River. To get to the start, after going through the main entrance to the horse center, go on the left side and follow the signs to the left and then all the way to the back end of the horse center. Continue to follow signs to the right and up the road to Hooftbeats Barn.
The top three male and female finishers will receive prizes. There will be food trucks on-site for food purchases after the race, along with raffle prizes and games.
