Artist Bill Kluge’s newest painting exhibit, “Reaching for the Sky,” will be featured for the month of October at Artists in Cahoots. The opening reception is this Friday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The artist is known for his detailed imagery, which can be attributed, in part, to an earlier career as a graphic designer and illustrator. His previous work includes birds in flight or in their native habitats that serve as thoughtprovoking up-close studies of nature. He is also known for perceptively painted landscapes that feature arresting cloud formations and multicolored skies that levitate above settings like House Mountain and other notable landscape features of the Rockbridge area.
“Skyscapes are ever changing and constantly in motion,” said the artist, “and the color of the sky influences everything that we see outdoors. Now, with a view from Rockbridge County, I have an endless supply of beautiful subjects and the perfect vantage point to paint them.”
Kluge served 34 years as a NASA graphic designer and conceptual illustrator creating artwork for such programs as the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, High Speed Civil Transport and Blended Wing Body aircraft. He retired in 2016 and became a Rockbridge resident in 2019.
