Golf Equipment Donation Drive Underway

Lexington Golf and Country Club is launching one of the area’s first golf equipment donation drives.

Through Oct. 19, all club members and the general public are invited to donate used adult and junior golf clubs, bags, pull carts, and golf balls at the pro shop at 141 Country Club Road.

The donated equipment will be distributed during a “Give Back to the Community Day” on Oct. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. on the driving range on New Cameron Drive.

These items will go to local K–12 schools and colleges; homeschooled children; the general public; local First Tee foundations; and area recreational organizations.

This initiative was inspired by the inclusion subcommittee of the PGA board of directors, of which a Lexington resident is a member. The drive is being used as a pilot program and may serve as a nationwide example for the PGA to encourage golfers to donate unused equipment, said a spokesperson.

With the number of golfers in the United States growing since the pandemic, this effort addresses one of the major barriers to the sport: the cost of golf equipment, the spokesperson said. The goal is to help more juniors and adults begin playing golf or improve their current gear.

Golf equipment can be dropped off during normal business hours at the club pro shop. For more information, contact Herb Rubenstein, PGA golf professional and club member, at herb@herbrubenstein. com or (540) 784-6795.
