Thanks to a donation from Dominion Energy, the Buena Vista Fire Department is adding a new battery-operated fan into service.
Last week, Dominion representative Richard Dickerson presented a $3,000 check to the department.
Dickerson works with Dominion and the Virginia State Firefighters Association on a program launched three years ago to help smaller fire departments across the commonwealth. The grant funding typically goes toward equipment or training to keep volunteer departments like Buena Vista’s ready for anything.
The new fan will replace the department’s current gas-powered model, cutting firefighters’ exposure to harmful gas/carcinogens in a structure. Its compact, lightweight design and foldable frame make it easier to store and move around the fire apparatus and scene.
Because it’s smaller and more maneuverable, it helps crews work faster and more efficiently when every second counts, said a spokesman.
