Travel back to 1850s Lexington during the Jackson House Museum’s Apple Day this Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For over 40 years, this much-loved event has welcomed families, friends, and history lovers for a day filled with interactive activities, traditional crafts, and old-fashioned fun for all ages.
“All activities and demonstrations are free,” said Maj. Grace Moyer, Jackson House Museum site director. “We love seeing families enjoy quality time together without the stress of technology, while discovering something new about the past.”
Guests may try their hand at cider pressing with a working 19th century apple press, and learn the lively steps of historic social dances led by a costumed instructor.
Children will enjoy making crafts like jewelry, dolls, and wooden toys. Classic 19th century games will be played, and captivating tales will be told by talented storytellers.
Visitors are also invited to explore the Jackson House, historic gardens, and exhibit gallery open during the event. Admission to the museum is free for residents of Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County.
