Defying a seemingly depressed local economy, taxable sales made in Rockbridge County increased 12% in 1974 over those made in 1973. - The Lexington Lions Club concluded its most successful carnival to date with $11,001.29 in gross sales. -A new glass-covered section of a sidewalk at Lauderdale A.R. Presbyterian Church that contained five special coins was found broken and the coins were missing. Special edition Lexington and Rockbridge bicentennial coins and the half dollar U.S. bicentennial coin were among the stolen pieces.

Republican Del. Ben Cline and Democratic challenger David Cox expressed their contrasting views on the state budget at a candidates’ forum. Cline defended his vote against the budget deal in the 2004 saying the tax increases were unnecessary while Cox said if the package had not been approved, vital government services would have been cut. - Two-year-old Bryce Allen Yeary went missing from his grandparents’ home on Dry Hollow Road. After about an hour, he was found by a neighbor. The little boy told his grandmother he had gone deer hunting.
