Sept. 12, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: The death of Charlie Kirk, a Republican spokesman for religious and conservative views and a fighter for free speech, has saddened us and our prayers go out to his wife, children and family.
More and more freedom of speech has been challenged by violent protests and efforts to prevent speakers from being heard.
In a free society we need to welcome civil discourse, like what used to happen at Buena Vista’s Labor Day event, and on college campuses.
Hopefully, the death of Charlie Kirk can encourage more civil discourse that he believed in and fought for.
We pray that God would protect us from those who sow division, anger and violence for a political end. JAN LOWRY Chairman, Rockbridge Area Republican Committee
