Sept. 15, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: In the Sept. 10 issue of The News Gazette, Mr. Hart objected to Rockbridge County’s use of any and all long-term debt. He asserted that the supervisors “refused to exercise the leadership and discipline required to toughit- out in existing buildings until we could pay cash for the new ones.”
Voters should go to Rockbridge County High School. Stand in front of the newly renovated and expanded Innovation Center. Go inside and take a tour. Learn about the skill and job training available to today’s students. See the resource for economic development in the county that will benefit all taxpayers.
Mr. Hart would delay this project for 7-10 years while the county “saves” money. Deferral is equivalent to denial for half a generation of students. With poorly prepared workforce, economic development will not happen either. Taxpayers willingly make payments on assets they can see and use today.
I have discussed this with Boyd Brown. I am confident that Boyd will carefully evaluate projects and commit resources wisely. Rockbridge County has a well-constructed financial position. It does not need some radical overhaul. Vote for Boyd Brown in Kerrs Creek. DAVE HAWKINS Kerrs Creek
