Pry Out At Tech

Lexington High School alumnus Brent Pry is out as head football coach at Virginia Tech as the Hokies began the current campaign with three losses. In a little over three seasons at the helm of the Hokies, Pry’s record was 16-24.

Going back to last season, the Hokies have lost seven of their last eight games. The firing came Sunday, effective immediately, the day after Old Dominion University defeated Virginia Tech 45-26.

Philip Montgomery, VT’s offensive coordinator hired in the offseason by Pry, was named the Hokies’ interim head coach for the duration of the 2025 season.

Pry, a 1988 graduate of LHS, spent his high school years in Lexington. His father, Jim Pry, was the offensive coordinator for Virginia Military Institute’s football team from 1985 to 1988.

Pry released a statement Sunday in which he, on behalf of his wife Amy and their family, thanked Virginia Tech President Timothy Sands, Athletic Director Whit Bancock “and the Virginia Tech community for giving me the opportunity to lead this proud football program. Coaching at Virginia Tech has been an incredible honor and a chapter of our lives we will always cherish.”

He said, “Blacksburg will always hold a special place in our hearts. We leave with wonderful memories and lifelong friendships, and we will forever be cheering for the Hokies.”
