The Collierstown Presbyterian Church celebrated Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 7, with approximately 100 members and visitors in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. Information on a new year of Christian education opportunities was provided for children of all ages and adults. Burr Datz delivered the morning message entitled “The Cost of Discipleship” using scripture texts from Jeremiah 18 and Luke 4. Following the worship hour all were invited to stay for lunch and a time of fellowship that included hotdogs, sandwiches, watermelon and ice cream.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s C&F Circle begins a new year of Bible study on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The group will be studying the Horizons Bible study entitled “Finding Resilience, Joy and Our Identity in Jesus Christ.” All women are invited to attend. On Thursday, Sept. 18, at the 6:30 p.m. the Collierstown Presbyterian Women will meet in the fellowship hall to make plans for a new year of service and support of Christian education. Initial plans for the church’s annual church dinner to be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, will be discussed. The 2025 annual church dinner will mark the 100th anniversary of the event. The first dinner was held as a two-day event on Nov. 4 and 5, 1925. It included a show of chrysanthemum flowers raised by the church’s women along with delicious meals of fried oysters, roasted turkey and country ham. This year’s event on Nov. 1 promises to be a wonderful day of delicious food, warm hospitality and fellowship.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church and congregation celebrated Grandparents Day on Sunday, Sept. 7. Members brought pictures of grandparents and shared stories of how their grandparents love, wisdom and faith witness imparted wisdom and guidance in developing Christian qualities in their lives.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Collierstown and Mt Horeb United Methodist congregations will hold a joint worship service at Lake Robertson in the Nelson Hall Pavilion at 11 a.m. The worship service will be followed by a picnic. Chicken will be provided and those in attendance are asked to bring a covered dish.
A Bible study of the Book of Exodus continues to be held on Tuesday nights at 7 and on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 at the Collierstown United Methodist Church. Both studies are led by Pastor Daniel Montague.
A cleanup day at the Collierstown United Methodist Church will be held Oct. 9 in preparation for the 185th homecoming of the Collierstown United Methodist Church that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. The congregation will welcome guest speaker the Rev. Doug Forrester, assistant to the bishop/chief operating officer for the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, to deliver the sermon during the worship hour. The day will include a meal following the worship hour. The worship service will be a joint service with the Mt. Horeb congregation.
