Sept. 4, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: The CDC has been a valuable science-based federal institution that today is being destroyed by Trump and RFK Jr., neither of whom understand or respect the methods or conclusions of medical science.
Already JFK Jr. has excluded use mRNA vaccines, a recently proven three- to six-month shortcut to an effective vaccine should the next pandemic start (H5N1 virus is already present in birds and dairy cows, a short step to people). If and when viral adaptation occurs, having a vaccine in four months rather than 10 or 12 months will save tens of thousands of American lives.
Vaccine use is only one example of the CDC’s contribution to American safety and health. As a medical doctor, I worked for two years in the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the CDC and understand the hundreds of areas of critical health science they support; neither Trump nor RFK Jr. appear to understand the science or the dangers of forsaking that science.
The current destruction of the CDC is a crime against the American people. I call on Ben Cline to open his eyes, and before it’s too late, act in Congress on behalf of the health and safety of the voters in the 6th District, or resign his seat.
