Are Things Going So Well Under Trump?

Sept. 3, 205 Editor, The News-Gazette: Mike Lowry has written as if Trump invented capitalism and will save American manufacturing.

So, I would ask your columnist, how’s that looking? Nissan’s cutting jobs in Tennessee. Subaru’s shifting production to Japan. Stellantis (Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge) is losing money. Ford’s losing near $1 billion this half and GM $5 billion for the year. Europeans are looking to cancel Boeing airliners and American warplanes. Tariffs magically made profits disappear.

Canada’s tired of Trump’s bullying and illegal violation of the treaty he signed. They’re increasing car manufacturing, using steel and aluminum at home or exporting it … but not to us. No matter. We won’t be building as many cars, right? Asia and Europe are getting all the low-cost LNG we need. No $20 billion to build Canada’s subs!

Trump has destroyed agriculture with hourly mind changes. Tariffs on China caused them to buy elsewhere. Taxpayers footed a $7 billion bailout to cover farmers’ lost sales. Got to keep red, farmstate politicians in office, right? This year? $21 billion in subsidies? Deficit exploding?

Trump never parts with his money. The tax cut he schemed to give himself proves that. His bullying led to soybean sales being scooped up by Brazil. It may not matter if Canada refuses to sell us potash. Losing customers, so why plant, right?

Curing inflation? Peace in Ukraine in one day? Parroting Communist talking points on Ukraine? A Trump-Putin bromance?

Military at D.C. landmarks? No criminals there? There’s a convicted rapist in the oval office. Thirty-three felonies for falsifying expenses to hide sex with a porn star. Stole from his charity in NYC. Fined $25 million for a scam “University.”

Good news. He made $3 billion! Like the North-Korean “Dear Leader” banner on the Department of Labor? Next to Lincoln? JOE PETITE Rockbridge County
