The ninth annual Nasty 9 Trail Run and 4-Mile Challenge are scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 27, on the hills and single- track trails at Brushy Hills. In addition, a new race, the “Not So Nasty 1.49” for children age 14 and under, has been added.
The races will welcome runners, walkers and hikers and will raise funds for the Friends of Brushy Hills, a group of volunteers affiliated with the Rockbridge Area Conservation Council. The event is also a fundraiser for the cross country and track and field teams at Rockbridge County High School, Parry McCluer High School and Maury River Middle School.
Brushy Hills is a 500-acre watershed tract, about a 10-minute drive west of downtown Lexington, and it’s home to miles of trails, developed and maintained by the Friends of Brushy Hills.
The 9-mile race, which consists of more than 2,000 feet of elevation gain, is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. The 4-mile race, which has about 500 feet of climbing, will start at 9:30 a.m. The kids’ 1.49-mile race will follow at 9:35 a.m.
Registration is $60 for the 9-mile race, $45 for the 4-mile race, and $20 for the 1.5-mile race. For information about a student discount, contact [email protected]. Each race participant will receive a shirt and post-race food. Awards will be given to the overall and age group winners.
