Aug. 25, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: In the better later than never category, I would like to thank The News-Gazette for its extensive coverage of the 25th anniversary of the fire which destroyed the Lexington Presbyterian Church.
However, one person who was instrumental in the rebuilding of the church was not mentioned, that being, none other than a Manley Memorial Baptist, Frank Parsons.
I was a member of the Point & Pivot Committee selected for the restoration, and we were searching for someone to be the project coordinator. With Frank’s extensive background at Washington and Lee, to include director of planning and development, coordinator of capital planning and facilities planning plus his years of service to the Lexington community, we knew we had our man.
Though retired, Frank graciously accepted our “offer,” and Lexington Presbyterian will be forever grateful. His expertise, organizational skills, and calming voice of reason led us for two and a half years as the sanctuary was ready for services in January 2003. The consummate gentleman, he always deferred credit to others. Though we were not able to convert him to join the Presbyterian ranks, the legacy of this fine Christian is etched in the beautiful sanctuary at the corner of Main and Nelson streets.
