LLL Meeting Next Tuesday

Welcoming the new baby will be a topic of discussion at the Sept. 9 La Leche League meeting to be held at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, at 123 W. Washington St., Lexington, in the Canterbury Room on the second floor, accessible via the elevator at the back of the church.

Breastfeeding is a natural process and babies are hardwired to nurse soon after birth. But many concerns can arise about initiating breastfeeding in the early days and good support is paramount to helping this process to be stress-free, said a spokeswoman.

Many concerns that seem to be universal, can arise such as how to know the baby is getting enough milk, how to prevent sore nipples, how often should to feed the baby, how to get good sleep when the baby seems to be nursing all the time. Diaper output is very important to assess and will be discussed as well as ensuring an adequate milk supply.

Breastfeeding and pregnant moms are encouraged to bring their babies and children, friends and all family members interested in learning more about the breastfeeding journey. Meetings are led by women who have breastfed at least for one year and have taken extra course work to be able to answer many concerns. A lending library is offered and snacks will be served.
