Tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 28, a community revival will be held at Lake Robertson in the Nelson Hall Pavilion beginning at 6 p.m. The speaker for the event is Dorsey Hostetter. Special music will be provided by Junior Painter & Friends. The event is being hosted by Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist Church, Collierstown and Mount Horeb United Methodist Churches, Oxford and Collierstown Presbyterian Churches and the Rapps Mill Church. Refreshments will be provided.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s last barbecue chicken sale of 2025 will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, beginning at noon. On that day barbecue chicken can be purchased as half chicken only for $7 or as a dinner, which includes two sides, applesauce, a dinner roll and your choice of iced tea or water. The cost of a full dinner is $13. Payment accepted is by check or cash only. Dinner side dish choices include green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and slaw. Chicken will be available until all is sold. Food items may be purchased as carryout. Seating for indoor dining will also be available. For more information, call (540) 460-3980.

The Collierstown United Methodist Women in Faith will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. at the church. Among items being discussed will be preparations for the 185th homecoming at Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Doug Forrester assistant to the bishop/chief operating officer for the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Women’s Night Circle will hold its first meeting of the 2025-26 Bible study year on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Area women interested in participating are invited to attend. This year’s study is entitled “Forgiveness-Making Peace with the Past,” a Life Guide Bible Study by Douglas Connelly.
