NB Man Faces New Charges
A Natural Bridge Station man who is already charged with several felonies – including three counts of grand theft auto – is facing several new charges, including a felony charge of escaping custody.
Charles Derek Mayo, 33, was arrested in June and charged with one count of grand theft and three counts of theft of a motor vehicle. Following a bond hearing, he was released from jail earlier this month under several conditions, including being placed under home electronic monitoring.
According to Sheriff Tony McFaddin, on Aug. 10, Mayo removed the monitor and left his home. He was taken into custody again on Aug. 12, resulting in the escape charge. Because the charges he was in custody for are felonies, the escape is a felony charge.
Additionally, Mayo was charged with one felony count of possession of a schedule I or II drug and four misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful parking, destruction of property and violation of home electronic incarceration.
A preliminary hearing for the escape charge and the drug charges is scheduled for Sept. 17 and a hearing on the other charges will be held on Sept. 10. Both hearings will be held in Rockbridge County General District Court.
