Getting Ready For The Excursions

Getting Ready For The Excursions
Zac McGinnis (standing), steam operations manager for the Virginia Museum of Transportation, talks with volunteer Walter Rosenberger as he inspects some of the maintenance work taking place on the historic Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611 steam locomotive this summer in preparation for the fall train excursions based in Goshen. Tickets went on sale last week on the Virginia Scenic Railways website for the excursions, which will run five weekends starting the last weekend in September. The News-Gazette visited the transportation museum last month and recorded four short videos, three pertaining to the maintenance work on the 611 and a fourth taken inside the cab of the locomotive explaining how the engine works. The videos can be found on the newspaper’s website at www. thenews-gazette.com. (Mary Woodson photo)
