Lexington formally accepted a $97,978 grant from HUD to be used toward the cost of developing the proposed Woods Creek Park and walking trail between Waddell Elementary School and the VMI island at East Lexington.
- The cheerleading squad from Natural Bridge High School brought home blue ribbons for their cheering skills during a week-long camp at Longwood College. - Irvine Lunsford of Brownsburg lost a barn and its contents when it was struck by lightning during an electrical storm.

Seven hundred twenty people attended the annual Effinger Ruritan ice cream supper held at the Palmer Community Center. The Ruritans made 100 gallons of homemade ice cream for the event. - Because of construction delays, students at Mountain View and Effinger elementary schools got three extra days of summer vacation. Natural Bridge Elementary School was able to open on time.
