Aug. 18, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Am I missing something? Why do we need soldiers to guard the public in D.C.? Humvees, rifles, armored vehicles? Who would’ve guessed? Serious crime this year was down 20%, petty crime down by 7%. The D.C. city government didn’t ask for it, but since one-third of their budget comes from the federal government, they couldn’t refuse the “help.” So why does Trump want to send troops?
Answer: to desensitize us to military rule, and to divert public attention from Trump’s deep entanglement in the Epstein scandal. Trump was buddies with Epstein for 15 years, parties, clubs, dates. They lived less than a mile apart. (I hear my mother saying: “birds of a feather ...”). Trump campaigned on revealing what he said the “Deep State” was hiding in government files. He promised he would reveal all if elected. Attorney General Bondi told the public that the Epstein files were “on her desk.” She also told Trump and the public that Trump appears in the Epstein files multiple times. Multiple times! How many, she didn’t say. But I should think once is too many, don’t you, dear voters?
Recently, Epstein’s co-defendant, convicted child-molester Maxwell, after nine hours with Trump’s personal lawyer, was moved to a minimum security prison by Trump. A blatant, backroom “deal,” her near-freedom for her silence about Donald. Shame on Trump!
The most recent diversion: the Russia/Ukraine war “summit.” Recklessly arranged, poor planning, no result. I saw jubilant, confident Putin shake hands with Trump. His stride displayed confidence. Putin left Alaska a winner, dictating his unchanged position to Trump, leaving Ukraine worse off and Trump empty handed.
Trump’s consolation: he had no Epstein for a week. FRED FEVRIER Walkers Creek
