High Bridge Presbyterian Church will have a picnic after the annual service at Cave Mountain Lake, which begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24. A covered- dish luncheon follows the service, and guests are invited to attend.

Congratulations to Linda Trumbo who will be commissioned pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Covington. The congregation of High Bridge is invited to attend the commissioning service next Sunday at 4 p.m. in Covington. This reporter remembers Linda’s dad, Mr. Trumbo, began his first year as principal of Natural Bridge High School in 1957.

Small church will be held in the church fellowship hall on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. Joe Hawes is leading the Bible study. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend.

High Bridge will celebrate Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. Regular Sunday school classes begin Sept. 14.

The Presbyterian Women’s third quarter mission is the Natural Bridge Elementary School clothes closet. Needed clothing includes underwear, shorts, pants (no jeans) and tennis shoes sizes 11-4. Items can be left with Betsy Shepard or dropped off in the narthex.

Beth Horon United Methodist Church will have its annual ice cream supper on Saturday, Aug. 23, between 2 and 4 p.m. The menu includes hotdogs with homemade chili, baked beans, coleslaw or macaroni salad and various flavors of yummy homemade ice cream. Everyone is welcome to attend and all proceeds benefit the church’s mission work.

High Bridge will celebrate it 255th anniversary this fall on the weekend Sep. 27-28. Please join us for different celebration and history activities each day. That Saturday Tom Camden, retired from Washington and Lee University, will give a program at 2 p.m. on the history of High Bridge and the old community of Springfield. A tent will be set up outside with refreshments to follow. The following day, we will have regular worship with a catered lunch in the tent to follow.

The Natural Bridge Food Pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 21, and close at 11 a..m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned fruit for the food pantry in August. In addition, we ask that our supporting churches and friends donate peanut butter as our inventory is down to zero.
