NTL’s ‘Hamlet’ Coming To W&L Screen

NTL’s ‘Hamlet’ Coming To W&L Screen

W&L’s Lenfest Center’s Outreach & Engagement (O&E) Series announces “Hamlet,” showing on the Stackhouse cinema screen, located on W&L campus’ Elrod Commons, on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Filmed live from the Barbican on the West End, the running time is 3 hours, 20 minutes, with a 20-minute interval. Strobe lighting is used in the production.

The Outreach and Engagement Series addition is focused on bringing National Theatre Live to the W&L campus — connecting university knowledge and art experiences on the W&L campus and beyond to the community in a mutually beneficial partnership.

National Theatre Live brings the world of London’s professional theater and entertainment to Lexington. It mysteriously persuades and convinces the audience they are a part of the theater — watching the drama live as it unfolds and questioning whether it will go as planned? It gives audiences the chance to see beyond the play itself.

Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s “Sherlock,” “The Imitation Game”) takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Now seen by over 900,000 people worldwide, the original 2015 broadcast returns to international cinemas to mark National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday.

As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.

Tickets are required. Tickets prices are $20 general admission and $8 for students. Online ticket sales are available at https://my.wlu. edu/lenfest-center/hamlet.

Tickets can be bought the night of the performance onsite at the Stackhouse Theater.

The box office is open for in-person sales Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is accessible only when undergraduate classes are in session. Patrons can contact the box office by calling (540) 458-8000 or emailing [email protected].

The National Theatre Live is sponsored in part by Class of ’64 Performing Arts Fund.
