Kudos To VMI, VDOT On North Main Projects

Aug. 7, 2025 Editor, the News-Gazette After many years of new construction and renovation of buildings and tens of millions of dollars worth of investments at VMI, the section of North Main Street that runs through the campus has been in a constant state of disrepair and alteration. Whether it was yet another dig for utilities or shifting lanes to accommodate new building construction, that sad stretch of roadway only became more weary and difficult to navigate over the years. At times, I pulled my mirrors in on my truck to be safe because the lanes were so narrow. It seemed never ending.

Last week I drove through and the finished product was eyepopping! No more barricades, the roadway was repaved and repainted, the curbs and sidewalks restored and it all looked terrific! That tortured section of roadway went from a challenging, bumpy eyesore to a smooth jewel in downtown Lexington.

Kudos to VMI on their beautiful new and renovated buildings, and kudos to the Virginia Department of Transportation for the icing on the cake...that new roadway. A tremendous improvement! DANNY HOEHNE Rockbridge County
