The 35th Palmer Ice Cream Supper hosted by the Effinger Ruritan Club will be held this Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Palmer Community Center, 1230 Blue Grass Trail, beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. The Effinger Ruritan Club invites all to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the free live musical entertainment that will be offered throughout the evening. Food items available for purchase will include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, barbecue, coleslaw, corn on the cob and homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. A dairy-free ice cream option will also be available. Ice cream will be available for purchase in quart containers to take home. Funds raised from the sale of food, ice cream, and the 50/50 drawing will be used to support the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an evening outdoors with friends. The event will be held rain or shine.

It’s not too late to purchase the 2026 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar, prepared and sold by the Effinger Ruritan Club. The cost of the calendar is $4. Birthday, anniversary and memorial listings are 35 cents each. This is the 49th edition of the Effinger Community Birthday Calendars. The calendar may be purchased at the Palmer Ice Cream Supper or from any Effinger Ruritan Club member. Be sure to secure your copy this week.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Women’s annual Church World Service “Kids Kit” campaign will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 17. Members and friends of the church have been filling canvas tote bags with 11 basic school supplies for distribution to needy students in the United States and around the world. The goal of the 2025 campaign is to make 225 kits. The community is invited to help by giving a financial gift to buy supplies or by contacting the church office at (540) 4635918 to obtain a list of the needed supplies to donate. Financial gifts can be mailed to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450.

The annual summer outdoor worship service and covered-dish picnic lunch at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, on the church grounds. Special music will be provided by Stacy Stevens.

A community revival will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Lake Robertson in the Nelson W. Hall Pavilion beginning at 6 p.m. The speaker for the event is Dorsey Hostetter. Special music will be provided by Junior Painter & Friends. The event is being hosted by Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown and Mount Horeb United Methodist Churches, Oxford and Collierstown Presbyterian Churches and the Rapps Mill Church. Refreshments will be provided.

Collierstown Presbyterian and Collierstown United Methodist Church youths heading to college in the next two weeks include Dalton Woody, Diesel School in Nashville, Tenn.; Eleanor Goodhart, Gettysburg College; Kelsie Caldwell and Elisjsha Wade, Radford University; Gabriel Wade, Randolph College; Kate Straub, Roanoke College; and Josie Caldwell and Morgan Martin, Virginia Tech.
