MOAA Announces Winners In Rain-Shortened Tourney
THE MEN’S FLIGHT winners (gross) in the MOAA Veteran Support Golf Tournament included Luke Childress, John Childress, Matt Woodford and Luke Humphries.

The George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) successfully hosted its annual Veteran Support Golf Tournament at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Friday, July 18.

“Despite play being curtailed by a course-closing gully washer after most teams had only completed about 12 holes, it was a successful tournament in that our objective to raise resources to better serve our veterans and their families was achieved,” said a spokesman.

The tournament was played using the Captain’s Choice format, with gross and net prizes for both male and female flights. Prizes were also awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive. A long-distance putting contest further challenged our golfers again this year. One women’s, one mixed and 10 men’s teams, a total of 48 golfers, competed during the tournament.

The team of Christy Harris, Suzanne Williams, Judy Werner and Tammy Shomo won the women’s flight. The men’s flight award for low net score was won by the team of Buddy Bryan, Paul Bryan, Jim Gearhart and Hal Hill; the men’s flight low gross honors went to the foursome of Matt Woodford, John Childress, Luke Childress and Luke Humphries.

Carol Blair took top honors for women for the longest drive while Judy Werner won honors for closest to the pin. Nathan Britt took top honors among the men for closest to the pin and the longest drive was posted by Kevin McCusty. In the putting challenge, Bryan Paulsen beat all challengers by holing a 60-foot putt.

All proceeds from the tournament will be used to support special service projects, and to provide assistance and scholarships for veterans and their families.

THE MEN’S FLIGHT winners (net) were Hal Hill, Paul Bryan, Buddy Bryan and Jim Gearhart.

THE WOMEN’S FLIGHT winners were Judy Werner, Tammy Shomo, Suzanne Williams and Christy Harris.
