Walkabout Celebrates 20 Years

Walkabout Celebrates 20 Years
WALKABOUT owners, Lexington store staff, and Basecamp (main office) staff toast to 20 years of business. Pictured are (from left, back row) Vince Mier, Rich Gibson, (middle row) Connie Dreusicke, Karen Szczesiul, Suzanne Mayerchak, (front row) Ellie Bunten, Jason Vess, Leigh Mayo, Megan Martin, Tina Miller and Kirk Miller.

Walkabout Outfitter, a locally owned, independent outdoor retailer, celebrated 20 years of serving Virginia and beyond in June.

Tina Miller opened her first store, Ladles & Linens, 29 years ago, and in 2004, she and Kirk Miller met over the purchase of a coffee maker. In 2005, the two joined forces to open Walkabout. Walkabout’s first location opened in June 2005 in Lexington. Since then, Tina and Kirk have opened locations in Roanoke, Harrisonburg, Richmond, Blacksburg and Williamsburg. Through the difficulties that all small businesses faced in 2020, they adapted and opened Walkabout’s online store to serve locals and beyond, said a spokesperson.

Walkabout marked its 20th year with a celebration on June 25 in Lexington that featured a ribbon cutting, refreshments and music.

PROVIDING music for the celebration was Steven and Shane Duo.
