The West End Center for Youth in Roanoke got a new look last year. Rockbridge County native Rachel Anne Morris designed and painted a mural on the exterior of the center. In designing this mural she wanted to draw upon the Roanoke River and the surrounding mountains. “The river connects us and orients us to our place,” she said. “It can carry us somewhere or simply be that constant, present in our lives.” Morris is a graduate of Rockbridge County High School and attended Hollins University and earned an associative degree in graphic design from Virginia Western Community College. She is a poet, visual artist and designer residing in Roanoke.
