Modine: Hand Sanitizer Anyone?

A couple of hundred one-gallon containers of hand sanitizer are available in Buena Vista for distribution to schools or any other entities that may have a need for it.

City Manager Jay Tyree reported to City Council July 17 that Modine Manufacturing had reached out to the city about what to do with 400 one-gallon containers of hand sanitizer it had obtained during the Covid pandemic.

The large supply of sanitizer was obtained through the Coronoavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, with the assistance of Tyree’s predecessor, Jay Scudder. The containers have been in storage at Modine’s Buena Vista plant, and the company would like to free up the space for other purposes.

Council member Steve Webb, who works with the city sheriff’s office, has been facilitating the distribution of the sanitizer via the sheriff’s community service program to area public schools, Southern Virginia University and Mountain Gateway Community College. As of this week, about 200 one-gallon containers of the hand sanitizer remain.

Anyone who might have a use for the sanitizer is asked to contact the city or get in touch with Webb.
