Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 Visitors to High Bridge Church this past Sunday from Lovettsville included Sam and Violet Vest’s daughter and granddaughter, Nora and Audra Upchurch. They spent the week with Sam and Violet. Also visiting was former member Nancy Tolley Hostetter of Lexington, who was the guest of Gayle Tolley.
High Bridge members enjoyed an open house at Cedar Creek Farm on Plank Road last Sunday afternoon. They were invited by owner Martha Sherlin to tour the new horse ring, barn and home.
After church service in the summer months, the congregation is enjoying “lemonade on the lawn” provided by the deacons and members also contribute cookies.
On Aug. 10, we will have the children’s “noisy can” offering and a deacon’s meeting after church service.
The afternoon circle meets Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 with Sue Braford.
On Aug. 24 instead of the Aug. 17, we will have the annual service at Cave Mountain Lake at 10 a.m. A covereddish luncheon follows and guests are invited to attend.
Weekday religious education will have their startup meeting Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at Beth Horon United Methodist Church. All supporting churches and visitors are welcome to attend.
High Bridge will celebrate it 255th anniversary this fall on the weekend Sep. 27-28. Please join us for different celebration and history activities each day. That Saturday Dr. Tom Camden, retired Washington and Lee University history professor, will give a program at 2 p.m. on the history of High Bridge and the old community of Springfield. A tent will be set up outside with refreshments to follow. The following day, we will have regular worship with a catered lunch in the tent to follow.
The Natural Bridge Food Pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned fruit for the food pantry in August.
