A number of Rockbridge residents organized a new theatrical group called the Lexington Civic Theatre, which hoped to produce Broadway-type plays on a periodic basis starting in the fall. - Three break-ins were reported to the Lexington Police Department that summer. Thieves stole a cassette player and an AM-FM radio from the home of Edward Pinney on White Street. Coach Pete Brewbaker’s home on Johnstone Street was also burglarized while he and his family were on vacation. - Connie Wieman purchased the general store in Rockbridge Baths and renamed the business The Maury River Store.

The Jordan House, which served as a local cultural venue for a number of years, was sold and was soon to become the new home of the law firm Mann & Vita PC. - Harlan Beckley was elected to serve as acting president of Washington and Lee University during W&L’s forthcoming presidential search.
-An application to rezone 13.577 acres in the Rockbridge Regional Industrial Park so that MeadWestvaco could proceed with its plans to build a distribution center there was submitted by the Regional Industrial Development Authority to the city of Buena Vista.
